Desktops Computers – The Overlooked Parameters
Desktops computers were so called because computers of this class are small enough to sit on a common desktop. The main components: the case which encloses the inner parts such as hard disk, processor and ram, sits on a desktop. The monitor then sits on top of the desktop computer case, and an external mouse and keyboard is attached to it.
A typical desktop computer main parts are motherboard, hard disc drive (HDD), processor, ram, graphics card, sound card, heats-ink and cooler fan. These parts can be easily replaced or upgraded.
Desktops computers have improved vastly in recent years, they continually get cheaper, faster, and better. When it come to performance and capacity, Desktops computers are more powerful, reliable, and they hold more data than laptops computers. They are much easier to fix and upgrade and it also doesn’t need a computer guru to repair.
desktops computers are less expensive to purchase and to upgrade than laptops computers.
Their biggest draw back is that they are more difficult to move around. On the other hand a laptop or notebook computer offers you the convenience to move around and work from wherever you want. It is becoming, nowadays, very easy to connect a laptop to the internet in public hot-spots or simply in any room of your home as long as you have a wireless router. Therefore decision on which one to buy should depend also on cost, mobility, and size.
Determining what is your particular needs is the first step in this process of buying a desktop computer. Determine which features you’ll need based on what you’re going to do with your desktop computer. Computers used for editing digital video or managing a large database differ in specs from those used by enthusiastic gamers who will not be settled with less than the maximum graphical performance.
Decide on what pre-installed software you would like or need.
For basic tasks, get beside the operating system, an anti-virus program, and an office application for performing basic standard tasks such as word processing, spreadsheets, etc. However, choose the operating system that you prefer. If you feel comfortable with windows OS, then buy a windows computer. If you feel comfortable with Mac OS, then buy an apple computer.
As desktops computers are always in continuous improvement, try to buy, if possible, the latest technology and specs to enjoy the longest possible useful life span. Hardware tends to outdate faster those days.
Choose a brand based on quality, price and technical support. Warranty is also quite essential, as if there is any problems, they will start to show during the first 12 months from the date of purchase
To buy a desktop computer is not an easy job as it might appears, but, nevertheless, it also doesn’t need you to be a computer guru to take the right decision. Many people get confused by the too many different brands with their sophisticated specs.
iPad’s Newest Competitors
Touch screen tablets may forever on out always be called iPads, thanks to Apple being the first to launch the piece of technology in the biggest and best way. And while Apple has enjoyed an amazing success with their iPad, having sold 3 million units in its first 80 days, the competition is now approaching the company’s heels with their own version of the device.
If you haven’t heard of the iPad or touch screen tablets, they are devices smaller than notebook computers yet larger than a smartphone. They feature touch-screen interfaces that allow people to browse the Internet, download apps, read the news or watch movies. Just with these features, people are loving this device.
So who is the competition?
Toshiba has produced the Folio 100, an Android-based tablet and it will come in 3G and non 3G versions. This tablet is expected to ship later this year, starting in Europe.
The Toshiba is 10.1″ in size with a 1024×600 multi-touch display. It weighs 1.7 pounds and has 16GB of internal memory which is expandable via SD/MMC memory card readers. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a Nvidia Tegra processor, stereo speakers and a 1.3MP web camera. The battery for the Toshiba is expected to last 7 hours. The Toshiba also comes with Adobe Flash 10.1 and Android 2.2. Pricing in Europe is expected to be around 399 Euros or (1).
Another competitor who has a smaller version of the touch screen tablet is Samsung with their Galaxy Tab. This device is also Android-based and is only 7 inches in size. (iPad is 9.7 inches). Other specs on this device include Flash 10.1, 16GB or 32 GB of memory, GPS, and a gyroscope, accelerometer, and a 3.2-megapixel camera, with autofocus and a flash. There is also a phone in the Galaxy Tab, which means you have to buy the device through a carrier, but on the other hand, it is almost like having a super-sized smartphone.
And then there is Dell who has the Streak, which is quite tiny – only 5 inches in size. This device was launched first to customers in the United Kingdom in June of this year. The Streak is considered a hybrid between a smartphone and a tablet, just like the Toshiba, but smaller. It comes with a 5 MP auto focus camera, dual LED flash for easy point and shoot capabilities, VGA front-facing camera for video chat, 3G WiFi, Bluetooth and a Micro SD slot that expands up to 32GB. The downside for is that it comes with Android 1.6, whereas new tablets will have Android 2.2. One can pick up the Streak in the US now with a two-year phone contract with AT&T for 9 – or buy it unlocked for 9.
BlackBerry or Rim now has the Black pad – or at least that is the rumor. The rumor also states that this device will be a companion gadget to the BlackBerry–it will come only with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, and for 3G service would need to be tethered to one of RIM’s smartphones. It is expected that this device will not run on BlackBerry OS but a software from a company called QNX that RIM bought earlier this year. The device may not be available for Christmas this year but possibly some time next year.
We can’t forget about Hewlett-Packard or HP. They are working on the HP Slate with Windows 7. The HP Slate was just unveiled this month. It has a webcam, 3 MP camera, memory card slot, 1.86 GHz processor, and 2GB of RAM. The Slate is aimed at business consumers, HP said, and is an entirely different device than the iPad. They add that it runs on the same operating system as your PC and laptop (as it uses Windows) but it has 8 times the amount of RAM in an iPad.
There are many others in the touch-screen tablet race besides the large well-known companies. Operating systems will vary too, just as it does with smartphones. You will see in addition to Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, Palm’s WebOS, RIM – BlackBerry operating system, and Microsoft’s Windows 7. Who will come out on top – we shall only see.

Best Earphones for Running
Running, jogging, and exercising has become a routine for most of us today. As music does have a very good impact on the quality of workout or jogging, we generally listen to songs from our MP3 player while running and exercising. The biggest problem that we have to face with listening to standard headphones during running is their shifting from over the ears occasionally. Such headphones are not at all equipped for fitting snugly over the ears. They may even get spoiled due to the sweat, jiggling, and harsh conditions. So to make your running lives a bit easier, I’ve compiled a list of some of my all-time favorite stay-put earphones, so you can focus on your run time, rather than your technical difficulties.
Philips Earhook Headphones
For earphones that hook around your ear, I like these flexible earphones by Philips.
They provide decent sound quality, stay snug and secure in your ears, and come with a 1.2-meter-long cable so you can pop your iPod in a jacket or in your running pants. Another good to know piece of information? They only cost .
Sennheiser Twist-to-Fit Earbuds

Sound quality is stellar with neodymium magnets for detailed sound, and each pair comes with an ear adapter set, a cable clip, and a carrying case. So Spring appropriate!
Sony Spiral Neck-Band Headphones
If you’re a fan of the wraparound-style headphones, check out Sony’s lightweight Spiral neck-band headphones () that come with a cord adjuster so you can get the exact length you want.
They offer an excellent deep bass sound quality too. The headphones are also protected in a moisture guard so no worries about heavy sweating.

These are some of the best tech gadgets for running, jogging or exercising. If you are thinking of best bluetooth headphones for running, you can consider the Jaybird sportsband models. Sony’s DR-BT140Q can also be thought of as a good choice if you are searching for best wireless headphones for running or active use.
Portable GPS Warning: Be Wary of Cracked Software
GPS navigational systems seem to be part of the “in” thing these days. This is even more apparent with the emergence of affordable portable GPS devices which you can buy for less than a hundred bucks. The only problem with a cheap price tag is that it comes with a “prize” – the possibility of using cracked software.
You are probably aware that almost all types of electronics come with a Chinese brand and portable GPS devices are no exception. These models compete with the “branded” OEM manufacturers but are getting a fair share of the market because of their cheaper price.
To keep these price tags at the lower end, hardware suppliers distribute these units minus the licensed software – and this is where the problems start.
Your Portable GPS Device and Cracked Software
Distributors of portable GPS devices coming from China acquire these units at wholesale prices without any licensed software.
It would be up to you as the consumer to select the best GPS software for your needs that would be compatible with your unit.
Reputable distributors may provide units installed with working evaluation software, so you can check the functionality of the unit. You can have the option to purchase the full version of this software or choose another according to what you prefer.
The problem is, some unscrupulous distributors would try and install cracked or pirated software in their units, passing them off as the real thing. The consumers like you would end up with a device that breaks down on you – usually during a time when you really need it the most.
To ensure that you won’t get caught out in the open with badly-working software, you should only purchase portable GPS devices from a reputable source. Aside from that, you can do certain actions on your own to make it sure that you’ll only get genuine and reliable software for your needs.
Available Resources on the Right Path
How do you find out if your supplier is selling you pirated software for your portable GPS device? Reputable suppliers usually offer 12 month warranties on the products they sell. Aside from that, the products also carry a Quality Control seal assuring you that you’ll only get good products.
If you have doubts however, you can always check the serial number that goes with your software and verify it against the manufacturer’s database. The software provider would be most willing to help you in this regard. That’s the beauty of genuine or proprietary software – excellent customer support and service.
You can also take on the open source path for your portable GPS software needs. Open source applications are available which you can use for your devices as long as they are compatible. There are free software available which you can use such Waze. You may not get all the extra features with free software, but most of your portable GPS device’s basic functions would be supported.
Take Action: Make a Stand against Software Piracy
If you’re an entrepreneur engaged in reselling portable GPS units online or through a physical store, you should be wary of selling products installed with pirated software. Not only would this be illegal, but it can also damage your reputation in this business – and lose your valuable clients forever.
Make a stand and sell only genuine navigational devices and software. You should also report unscrupulous suppliers using cracked software on their products. Not only will you do your customers great good, but the whole industry as well.
